It is finally college move-in day! I know that every school is different on moving day but at the end of the day, it is stressful wherever you go.
Between packing, unpacking, and saying goodbye to your loved ones it's just filled with different feelings. How much time and effort put into moving day and it's just mind-boggling on what you should do.
Today I want to talk about how to make college move-in day as smooth and stress-free as possible. With some planning and preparation will make life so much easier for you. So no worry Allison is here to save you some trouble with some college move-in day tips and hacks.

College move-in day is one of the biggest days you will experience during your college life. It is exciting but it can also be very stressful. That is why I'm creating this blog post for you so you can have an understanding of how it's going to work and how to make moving in a lot less stressful.
Move-in day is filled with meeting new people, starting a new chapter in life, and saying goodbye to your loved ones for now.
What should I wear for College Move in day
I know this is one question that I had when I was moving into college. What I wore was something comfortable but also cute.
Just be mindful of what you're wearing don't wear your favorite blouse or uncomfortable shoes. Wear some leggings, your favorite t-shirt, and comfortable tennis shoes that you can wear all day.
How long does it take to move into a dorm
It just depends on what you are bringing into the dorm. I know setting up my dorm room it took almost a day because I brought a lot of stuff.

pack in advance
Don't wait until the last minute to pack because then you're bound to forget something.
Label your boxes
When you are packing for college move-in day don't forget to label your boxes so you know what is what. This will make the moving process quick and stress-free.
garbage bags


Pack hanging items on the hangers and place them in garbage bags. You will avoid wrinkles and saving time instead of folding and unfolding.
Pack essentials in a weekend bag
Pack some spare clothes and toiletries in a weekend bag so you can have some clothes ready for the next couple of days.
Tape your drawers
Tape your drawers to avoid any of your stuff falling out.
Utilize your big items and store your smaller items
When packing I recommend using your big items to store your smaller items. If you have drawers put all of your small Decor or clothing in there so you can save some space.

This college move-in day hack helped me lighten my load when I was moving to college. Don't bring warmer weather clothes to school when it's going to be cooler weather and during winter break you can exchange your clothes.

Research Your Dorm Room and discuss with your roommate
Before you move into your dorm room research what you want your dorm room to look like. Make sure you figure out what the measurements are if you plan on bringing in furniture.
This will give you an idea on how you can discuss with your roommate on how you guys want to do your room layout.

Don't forget important documents
Make sure you don't forget any important documents that you might need for moving day or for the first week of school.
Arrive as early as possible
I can’t stress this enough please arrive a couple of minutes early for your check-in. Showing up a few minutes early will allow you to get ahead of the group you are with.
Bring Your Own Dolly
This is something that I wish I had for move-in day. This would have made our life so much easier. The school will provide you a tub to bring in your dorm stuff but sometimes there are not any available so I highly recommend buying a dolly.

It's for the two things that I completely forgot about that you need. Most colleges have the rule of not putting holes on the wall. To avoid any damages purchase some command strips for your room. Then you never know when you may need batteries.
Clean the Room Before Moving in
Bring some cleaning supplies so you can clean the dorm before you move in because you don't know who was in there before you moved in and rather be safe than sorry.
unpack in sections
Unpacking in sections will allow you to have an understanding of where you want everything in your room that's why it's important to label your boxes so you can put the boxes where it needs to go. Before you start unpacking set up your furniture first so then you can utilize the space.
bring tools
Don't forget to bring tools so you can build your furniture or hang up things.
Check for damage
Before you move in completely and check the room if there are any damages or paint missing that you need to report before you move in. Check for any damage on walls, furniture, windows, doors, etc. and take pictures of any damage you find. They will charge you if there's any damages in the room after you move out if you didn't report it.
Introduce yourself
Move in day is a great way to meet new people. Introduce yourself to your neighbors and resident assistant. Because first impression means everything and these are the people that you are going to be with for the next year. You never know that they might become your friends or give you helpful college advice.
Helpers
Please be kind to whoever is helping you. I know that moving and can be extremely stressful so there's no need to get in a bad mood with them when they're helping you.! They are also very stressed so just appreciate this f time that you have with them for a while.
bring snacks
One thing that I did wish that I did during my move-in day was to bring snacks because we were extremely hungry halfway through.
Don't overpack with decor
One major college move-in days hack is to not overpack. You don't realize how small that room is until you move in. Here's a complete list of what not to bring to college.
Wait to the end to shop
If you forgot something wait to the end to go back to the store and get the things. In the end, you can create a list of what you forgot.
grocery shop When you get there
I went grocery shopping once I got there because that will save so much room in your car for you to bring other things instead of food. You can get food anywhere.
Ship To Store
If you're coming from out-of-state one thing that I love that some stores do like Target, Walmart, and Bed Bath & Beyond are that they allow you to buy online and pick it up on move-in day so that you won't be stressed shopping the day of.
divide and conquer
Another college move-in day tip is divide and conquer. Have designated roles for each of your family members on what they should be doing during the move-in day. So it can go as quickly and as smoothly as possible. For example, if you have furniture have someone focus on putting it together.
